Letter to parents

Print Permission Slip

Dear Eighth Grade Parents and Students,

This letter is to inform you of our Eighth Grade Dance on May 20, 2015 at 6:30-9:00 P.M., expectations, attire and to ask for your assistance.  A theme has been selected, “A Night Out of This World”, that will guide the transformation of the Physical Education area (gym) into a memorable “Galaxy Party” atmosphere.  During the week preceding the dance, the transformation begins and the excitement heightens as students anticipate this special event.

In order to provide a safe and orderly environment, we will be implementing a behavior expectations plan and a dress code for the Eighth Grade Dance. The 8th Grade Dance is for currently enrolled East Cobb Middle School 8th grade students only!  Students who consistently cause disruption on the bus or during the school day will not be permitted to attend this special event.  Please discuss the below behavior expectations with your child.

Students that receive an administrative referral resulting in a consequence of ISS or OSS, as outlined below will be unable to attend the eighth grade dance.  If he or she receives:
3 office referrals with 2 resulting in OSS
OR
4 office referral resulting in ISS

Students are expected to dress in their “Sunday best”.  Tasteful, age-appropriate clothing that is not revealing or suggestive is expected -jeans and tennis shoes are not permitted.  Young ladies may wear dresses which are school length appropriate, that have straps or sleeves and cover the mid-back.  We suggest that young men wear slacks/khakis with a collared shirt.  Administration reserves the right to isolate a student during the dance who wears clothing that exhibits a plunging neckline or back, dresses that are too short, immodest slits or cut-outs, sagging pants or clothes with holes or tears.

Tickets will be on sale in the cafeteria during lunch for $8.00 (cash only) on the following dates:  Weds/May 6, Friday/May 8, Weds/May 13 and Friday/May 15.

There will be no ticket sales the day of the dance on May 20th.

Tickets will be distributed to students the day of the dance during homeroom. Remember that the enclosed permission slip is mandatory to attend the dance.

In this blog, you will also find links to sign up for volunteer opportunities to help us get ready for the dance, to donate food items and to lend items like power cords or platters for the dance.  We will need parent volunteers to help with organizational activities including transforming our gym into “A Night Out Of This World”.  On the night of the dance, we will need parent volunteers to make sure food and drinks are available throughout the night and for cleanup.
